Elba Island is the largest of the tuscan archipelago and is the third largest Italian island after Sicily and Sardinia and the largest of the smaller islands of the country, and is only 10 km (less than an hour by ferry ) from Piombino. The island has climatological characteristics typically Mediterranean. Elba is characterized by the presence of wide sandy bays, including the gulfs of Lacona, Marina di Campo and Procchio and Biodola .
The south-western coast is called the Sunshine Coast and is one of the areas most frequented by tourists for its beautiful beaches, while the eastern side, called Shining Costa and little frequented by mass tourism , is characterized by specific features of brilliance and colors especially in the beautiful beaches .
The less than 30,000 inhabitants inhabit the eight municipalities of Campo Elba, Capoliveri, Marciana, Marciana Marina, Porto Azzurro, Portoferraio, Rio Marina and Rio dell’Elba, and are employed mainly in the tourism industry.
In conclusion it is definitely a great family friendly destination suited to holiday with the children, where to find some good family hotels for kids.
