The charming village of Fiè allo Sciliar (800 m), in the district of Sciliar, is enclosed between terraces and bottomland which see its lowest point at 315 m and its highest one at 2,564 m above sea level. In a basin at the foot of Sciliar Massif, the suggestive Pond of Fiè is located, a picturesque alpine lake, in which it is possible to swim in the summer and ice skate in the winter. Fiè allo Sciliar has transformed itself from a small farming village into a place of healing and wellness: for over 100 years its guests have been able to drink good water and breathe fresh mountain air and the scent of hay. The hay baths of Fiè allo Sciliar are witness to a historical tradition that uses natural treatments to increase physical and mental wellbeing: it was the farmers who first realized that an overnight stay in the hay made the strains from a day harvesting the pastures go away. Thus the hay bath, with herbs and fragrant flowers was born.
The village lies at the foot of Alpe di Siusi, the biggest plateau in Europe, which offers a unique panorama of the Dolomites. With its breathtaking scenery, it is a true paradise for holidays in South Tyrol, in all seasons. The ski area of Alpe di Siusi is part of the Dolomites Superski area, easily reached by the Siusi cable car, and is the ideal place for those looking for rest and relaxation, as well as for active tourists and families: 350 km of hiking trails, mountain bike trails, golf, horseback riding, 365 mountain huts, refuges and alpine huts, 60 km of slopes for all lovers of alpine skiing, downhill skiing, ski mountaineering, snowboarding, winter hiking and snowshoeing, and downhill sledding. The slopes, sunny and protected from the wind, perfectly prepared and of every degree of difficulty are perfect for families and beginners, as well as for more expert skiers. Families can also enjoy a Kids’ Fun Park, a Kindergarten and ski lessons for children.
A peculiarity of the place: a dense network of public transportation guarantees a car-free holiday. A shuttle bus service connects the towns of Fiè, Siusi and Castelrotto and their villages. Since the summer of 2003 you can reach Alpe di Siusi by cable car or shuttle bus service, as the road to Alpe is closed to individual traffic at certain times of the day.
