Brunico is the historical, cultural, economic and administrative capital of the center of the Puster Valley and is home to the ski area of Val Pusteria. The city is surrounded by three natural national parks: the Fanes – Sennes and Braies, the Nature Park Rieserferner-Ahrn and Puez-Odle.
Brunico in Val Pusteria is a major tourist destination in both summer and winter, thanks to the many famous places for trekking and skiing. To the south is the Plan de Corones (Kronplatz) well-known winter ski resort as the most famous valleys in the immediate vicinity which are the Val di Tures, Valle Aurina, Val Badia and Val di Anterselva.
In winter, the city offers numerous events and festivals, among which is the famous Christmas market which takes place in the city center.
